The latest National Trust podcast featuring hydropower at Cragside
22 January 2020
The National Trusts latest podcast features hydropower at Cragside. It was a pleasure for Gilkes to be involved in this podcast and chat about a project that also features prominently in our heritage.
Cragside (now a National Trust Property) was the Northumberland home on the inventor Lord William Armstrong who in 1878, turned the house into the first hydro-powered home in Britain.
At the heart of this engineering development was a Gilbert Gilkes & Gordon turbine that was installed in 1883.
Listen to the podcast and discover how an upgrade of the original hydro system is powering the estate into the future.
