What does an apprenticeship at Gilkes look like?

You will be enrolled onto the Level 4 Engineering Manufacturing Technician course at Kendal College and your duration of study will be 42 months + 3 months for your end point assessment.

At Gilkes you will explore a range of areas across the business, diversifying your skill set for a well-rounded professional journey. You will benefit from mentorship from industry experts whilst receiving a competitive compensation package coupled with additional benefits such as our generous pension scheme, cycle to work, additional holiday and more.

You will participate in a dynamic rotation programme capturing various departments across the business from the shop floor to offices and engineering to sales, no two days will be the same and you can expect new and diverse challenges. You will be contracted to work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday and you will be required to attend Kendal College for 1-day a week.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded a HNC in Engineering.

ADVANCED APPRENTICESHIPS

Our advanced apprenticeships usually take two years to complete, and you will gain a BTEC Level 3. 

We offer advanced apprenticeships in the following roles:

  • Logistics
  • Incoming Goods
  • Warehouse

HIGHER APPRENTICESHIPS

Our higher apprenticeships take four years to complete and work alongside your studies at Kendal college. 

You'll gain a BTEC Level 3 and a relevant HNC.

We offer higher apprenticeships in the following roles:

  • CNC Machining

  • Electrical Maintenance
  • Mechanical Maintenance

DEGREE APPRENTICESHIPS

Our degree apprenticeships usually take five years to complete. This includes 2 years gaining a HNC followed by a further 3 years earning your degree.

We offer degree apprenticeships in the following roles:

  • Mechanical Engineer
  • Electrical Engineer
  • Hydraulics Engineer
  • Design Engineer
  • CFD Engineer
  • Production Engineer
